That’s exactly what the Box Butte County Youth Grantmakers did this year — and their impact just earned them a statewide spotlight.

Recognized for Raising Their Voices

Every year, Voices for Children in Nebraska honors organizations that go above and beyond for youth. These awards celebrate people who are breaking down barriers and creating opportunities so Nebraska kids can thrive.

At the 2025 Raise Your Voice event, the first award of the afternoon — the Youth Serving Organization Award — went to the Box Butte County Youth Grantmakers, an inspiring group of middle and high school students from Alliance and Hemingford.

Their win is a huge deal — because it proves what happens when youth voice isn’t just invited to the table…but trusted to lead it.

Leading Change Through Giving

Supported by the Snow-Redfern Foundation, these young changemakers are part of the BBC Giving Circle, a participatory grantmaking project that puts decision-making power directly in the hands of youth.

With mentorship from partners like the Panhandle Public Health District, Alliance Recreation Center, and UNL-Nebraska Extension, the Youth Grantmakers didn’t just talk about what their community needs — they did something about it.

They read real grant proposals. They discussed priorities. They made funding decisions that reflect what matters most to local youth.

Youth Voice, Real Impact

This project wasn’t just about handing out dollars — it was about building leadership, empathy, and civic engagement.

The Youth Grantmakers helped fund projects that:
